The Centifictionist

Marc Littman’s 100 word microfiction, “Digging to China”, will appear in the third issue of The Centifictionist (Vol. 2, Issue 1, Spring/Summer 2021). Marc graciously answered a few brief questions for us. Read the interview below.

1. What inspired the story “Digging to China”?

I recalled a boyhood memory where I bonded with my father after he stopped me from digging a deep hole bound for China, fearing it wasn’t safe, but he later relented and helped me dig safely.

2. What inspires you and your writing?

I’m a former journalist and travel writer so I have plenty of experiences to draw upon, but I also find inspiration at home.

3. What keeps you going when experiencing times of misery and despair?

A sense of humor and perpetual optimism. Writing helps me get through dark times like Covid. Write everyday.

4. What advice do you have for microfiction writers?

Know your story opening and ending before you start writing.

5. Is there anything else that you would like people to know about you and/or your writing?

I always strive not just to entertain readers or viewers with my words, but make them think, too.

Marc Littman’s short stories have been published in various online magazines and anthologies from 50-Word Stories to The Saturday Evening Post. He also writes novels and plays and is a member of Theatre West in Los Angeles. He enjoys the challenge of writing in miniature whether it’s micro stories or one-minute plays.
