The Centifictionist

Keren Dibbens-Wyatt’s 100 word microfiction, “Carrier”, will appear in the second issue of The Centifictionist (Vol. 1, Issue 2, Fall/Winter 2020). Keren graciously answered a few brief questions for us. Read the interview below.

1. What inspired the story “Carrier”?

I had just read something about how a cruel family member called their own kin “unclean,” saying their sin ran in their veins simply because they were ill. I also think about doughnuts probably more than I should.

2. What inspires you and your writing?

Anything and everything. Prayer, mostly. But also nature, and how fascinatingly complex human beings are.

3. What keeps you going when experiencing times of misery and despair?

My faith, and knowing that change is inevitable, even though it is often slower in arriving than we would like.

4. What advice do you have for microfiction writers?

Think about your sensual and emotional responses and how to express them. If you want to take your reader somewhere quickly, putting them inside how a situation feels, looks, smells, how it makes your protagonist react, is helpful.

5. Is there anything else that you would like people to know about you and/or your writing?

I have a new book of Christian poetic prose just out called Recital of Love. Also, no genre is safe from me.
