Lisa Marie Lopez’s 50 word microfiction, “Gifts”, will appear in the third issue of The Centifictionist (Vol. 2, Issue 1, Spring/Summer 2021). Lisa graciously answered a few brief questions for us. Read the interview below.
1. What inspired the story “Gifts”?
“Gifts” didn’t come from my personal experience, but from others’. I enjoyed the craft of writing this one–word choice and sentence structure, making the piece flow well.
2. What inspires you and your writing?
Reading stories I love inspires me to want to write and study my craft. Often my own life experiences will inspire an idea.
3. What keeps you going when experiencing times of misery and despair?
Writing for sure keeps me going during tough times. It’s a passion, a hobby, and a must. Sometimes it’s an escape.
4. What advice do you have for microfiction writers?
My advice for writing microfiction would be don’t worry (too much) about word count at first. Get what you want to say out, then you can work on cutting and revising. Take your time and have fun. Enjoy the process.
